Our history

History

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario was created on July 1, 1998 by the amalgamation of two predecessor organizations:

• the Federation of Women Teachers’ Associations of Ontario (FWTAO), and
• the Ontario Public School Teachers’ Federation (OPSTF).

Retired ETFO staff officer, Barbara Richter, has written a four-part history of ETFO and its predecessor federations entitled It’s Elementary: A brief history of Ontario’s public elementary teachers and their federations.
