The Gay/Straight Alliance of ETFO Durham is the newest network that is sponsored by the Elementary Teachers of Durham. This is a safe forum for all educators who want to make a difference within their school community and empower others to take a stand against Homophobia and Transphobia in their schools. Durham ETFO is the first local across Ontario to offer a Gay/Straight Alliance support group for Teachers.
The goals of Gay/Straight Alliance ETFO Durham include:
- Provide a safe inviting forum that is free from harassment and discrimination
- To gain strategies of how to promote classrooms that are safe and welcoming for all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity
- To learn about resources (books, media, and community) to address LGBTTQ concerns in schools.
